Steve Irwin's death exploited in rap lyrics
October 23rd 2006 11:43
Many Aussies out there felt the sorrow when one of Australia’s most recognisable icons, Steve ‘The Crocodile Hunter’ Irwin died from a stingray wound.
One and a half months later, an artist from the hip hop world is already using his death as a punchline.
In his new track entitled ‘Gayme Over’, Ras Kass uses the Croc Hunter’s death to diss ‘The Game’. That’s the same Game I shone the spotlight on a few weeks ago.
Here’s the lyric:
“You're the waste of LA
Get blast up in LA
Face down, ass up in LA
You the Crocodile Hunter, I am the stingray,”
The Kass/Game feud was the result of an altercation on September 14 (10 days after Irwin’s death) at an LA nightclub. Whether that means a fist fight, verbal argument, or the implementation of a nipple cripple is a mystery to me.
Since then, they’ve continued the insult’s through interviews, recorded tracks, and even through websites like YouTube and MySpace.
John Stainton, Irwin’s Manager came out with a few words regarding Ras Kass’ lyric. These are quoted from the Sydney Morning Herald:
"I just find it a bit sad that people have to stoop to that,"
"It is disappointing. I can't understand the point of it. There are other references they can make that will put the point across."
"I just think it is a pity that people do have to use Steve or anyone who has died in tragic circumstances ... as a form of entertainment."
I guess, Stainton doesn’t understand how the Rap world works. Though I agree, it’s just sad that it’s come to this.
Take care and peace out…
