Outkast to release a movie
September 4th 2006 11:14
One of the most anticipated albums of the year is Outkast’s ‘Idlewild’. It’s set to be huge, but did you know it is also the soundtrack for a new Outkast movie?
The movie is also entitled ‘Idlewild’, and obviously stars the boys themselves: Big Boi and Andre 3000.
The Outkast boys play struggling musicians during the prohibition era in the 1930’s. They dress the part and sound the part. The movie is much like a musical and you can expect the music to be a pleasant blend of big band and hip hop.
Andre 3000 and big boi sold over 10 million copies of their preceding album: Speakerboxxx/ The Love Below, though that hasn’t deterred the eccentric musician extraordinaire (I’m talking about Andre here) to return to his roots.
Andre did cop a few blows to the chin for his singing on the previous album. I’ll tell you now, I wasn’t one of them. His high pitched squeals reminiscent of Prince, while not technically good, was still pure genius.
Take that pure genius; pour a tank of kerosene, and set it ablaze. Andre’s vocal kanoodlings are long gone; now enter MORE pure genius.
It’s hardcore hip hop in its purest form… No it’s not Vanilla Ice dangling off an apartment balcony, thank god for that. Outkast is back to its original brilliance. Check out the album ‘Idlewild’ and see the movie, possibly arriving to Australian shores in the next month.
Take care and peace out…
