Album Review: Loose
August 24th 2006 12:14
From the get-go, Nelly Furtado cemented her place as the 21st century’s best pop-folk artist.
Six years later and she throws all that precedes her into the trash. She’s got a sassier look, sexier sound and found herself one the best producer’s in the industry.
I’ll admit, her new album, ‘Loose’, can’t even stand up to her previous albums let alone beat them. Though, I give her props for bringing her unbelievable talents to the hip hop arena. If not, I wouldn’t be reviewing her would I?
I’ll be frank on this one. The debut single, ‘Promiscuous’, lacks substance and vocal integrity. It’s somewhat of a let down considering her prior achievements. Did I forget to mention that Timbaland is a crap rapper? Though being a producer myself, Timby is still one of the best in the biz. If there is one positive to this track, it’s the infectious beat; I LOVE IT!!!
Second single, ‘Maneater’ is redemption after the lackluster first single. If you thought ‘Promiscuous’ had a little bite to it, ‘Maneater’ maliciously crushes skin and bone. Timbaland brought out all the tricks for this one, and the beat is one for the clubs, that’s for sure. Nelly’s sultry speech and singing is also tops.
‘Loose’ has its ups, and also has its low, low downs. Some of the slower tracks muster up memories of the old Nelly Furtado, while other tracks seem like a lame attempt at Latin music. Though, with Timbaland behind the faders, the club bangin’ tracks are quite solid. In fact I’m not sure, is this Furtado’s album or Timbaland’s?
Whatever the case, the album is solid. Not her best work, but it’s okaaaaaaaaaaaaay. If you’re looking for a club banger, then this album is for you.
Take care and peace out…

Like all the timbaland beats on this album, I lovet he Afraid beat n i like the chorus. The rap verse kind of wrecked it for me on that song though.
