Artist Spotlight: Frankie J
October 3rd 2006 09:35
Now here’s an artist with a wealth of experience. Okay, so Frankie J might not seem like your typical seasoned veteran. In fact, most people outside Latin America wouldn’t have ever heard of him before 2005; but I insist he’s been around.
In fact, he’s been releasing music for almost 10 years now, and has gone through several sonic makeovers to get to the cool, acoustic-flavoured R&B that we hear him croon over the radio.
His debut solo album hit the charts in 2003 and submerged underwater (lochness monster style) before anyone could ever hear it.
But before that he was releasing singles. At 15 years of age (1995) he signed with a Canadian label with little success and then signed with superstar Latin producer: Jellybean Benitez, once again with very little success. Geez, what a loser…
Frankie’s determination got him where he is now. He chugged along and kept going until he wound up as the lead singer of ‘Kumbia Kings’: a Latin band that found much success in Latin circles.
Fast forward to 2006 and Frankie J’s obsession is an R&B smash hit. Over a year of airplay, and Spanish language versions of the album have circulated throughout the world.
One reason for the success was his appearance in Baby Bash’s hit single ‘Suga Suga’.
According to Frankie J’s Myspace, his new album is set for release on October 17. 2006. Some producers who worked on the beats include Jermaine Dupree and Mannie Fresh.
Frankie’s first single on the new album is entitled ‘That Girl’ and features Chamillionaire.
Take care and peace out…
