Opinion: 50 Cents or a Billion Bucks?
August 21st 2006 01:48
Is Curtus Jackson a modest 50 cent, or an arrogant, self-adoring billion bucks? I’m convinced he’s the latter.
50 has amassed an army of hits and there’s no denying that he is the biggest hip hop artist today. So when did the fame go to his head? To tell you the truth, I don’t know. Maybe he was born an egotistical maniac.
50 Cent was an arrogant sucker long before he became more household than fly spray.
I always thought hip hop music was about the music. Makes sense right? I’ve always praised rappers for their intelligent lyrics and natural ability to spit on the mic. 50 Cent can’t do either particularly well. It sounds like his lyrics are written by some run-down ex-pimp and he raps like an overgrown, mumbling gorilla on sleeping tablets.
Is it just me, or is ‘Magic Stick’ and ‘Candy Shop’ the exact same song with an ever-so slightly different beat?
And is there anyone in the rap game he HASN’T picked a fight with?
He’s like that annoying school kid who THINKS he’s a bully when he’s clearly not. Everyone knows about The Game and Ja Rule sagas, but did you know that he dissed Dr. Dre? Who the hell in their right mind disses their own boss?
It’s just sad that Dre has stepped back to allow 50 to say what he wants. This only adds to his, already inflated, ego. In 2005, 50 Cent attacked Dre for staying neutral in the 50/Game debacle rather than taking 50’s side.
And another thing, why does 50 Cent attract so much hate amongst the hip hop community? I don’t know him personally, but if any rapper has beef with two of the most respected individuals in the business (Jay-Z and Nas), there must be something wrong. Note that Jay-Z and Nas were hated rivals at one point or another.
There’s not much else to say. 50 Cent is the most overrated artist (if he even deserves to be called one) in hip hop history.
Take care and peace out…
